The author, Roy Greffin, has trained, hunted over, and competed Vizslas (Hungarian Pointers) for over 20 years. He has judged pointing dog performances in both American Kennel Club Field Trials and Hunting Tests. Roy does his own training and his dogs have won and/or earned Field Championships and Hunting Test Titles on all levels. The intent of this series of articles "As the Grizzled One Sees It" is to share with other Hunting Dog owners (and owners to be) Roy's knowledge, insights, and experiences about the processes that turn a Bird Dog pup into a hunting companion. The vehicle for this is a fictional composite figure is called the Grizzled One, whose stories and experiences make up the text of this series and from which the information about Bird Dogs will be gleaned by the reader.
